Legend slams Nunez after ‘one of the worst misses of the year’ saw Reds drop pts

Liverpool -striker Darwin Nunez was left and depressed after he missed an open goal to win the game in Aston Villa on Wednesday evening.

The Premier League leaders extended their advantage on top of the table to eight points on Arsenal and played more a match, but could only draw with a spicy villa side, which led during the break.

But Liverpool could easily have won when Dominik Szoboszlai leaves a pass to Nunez in the game and took the goalkeeper out of the picture, only for the Uruguay striker to donate his shot high and wide.

Slot said: 'There is one player in the dressing room who feels quite down and I think you know who that is.

'Szoboszlai has made the perfect choice to pass it on. It was a big chance.

'Very bad luck and I hoped that he could have got another one, because a player like him would probably miss two chances in a row, he was very close afterwards.

“They are all very disappointed, but it is normal for a player to be a chance if this fog, they would be more disappointed.”

Nunez has passed a difficult campaign for the Reds and scored only six times during 35 performances in all competitions.

The 25-year-old enjoyed some memorable moments, such as when he gave two late goals on Brentford, but it is clear that he is struggling for trust.

And Reds -legend Robbie Fowler also focused on the Uruguayan and insisted that his Miss was unforgivable.

“He doesn't think enough about the game,” Fowler said at TNT Sports. 'If you struggle for trust, you must go back to basics.

'You have to get the ball, touch it, play five meters. Play the simple things. You must always go back to basics and do the simplicity to be a football player.

“He doesn't think he? It is a bad miss, it is really a bad miss – above that with one of the worst we have seen this year.

'Szoboszlai might have had to shoot herself, but he played him a great ball and he missed the target criminal from eight meters. That cannot happen. '

In the meantime, Slot feels that Liverpool often does not get what they earn in competitions and last week's draw at Everton – which he accidentally called a 'loss' – as another example.

“In terms of performance (we are) not at all in a dip in my opinion … But what we should not do and what we do a bit too often is that we don't get what we earn,” he added.

“We don't have to make it a habit because it happened a bit too much, but we are eight points clear.”

Villa -Baas Unai Emery was not satisfied with the draw and thought his team could have won – although he said it was fair.

The Spaniard said: 'I am really not happy if we don't win the game because we have played a good game.

'Liverpool is the best team in the Premier League and Champions League, but we competed, we showed our capacity to face them and close to win.

“The result is fair for both teams.”
