The son of Italy legend Gianluigi Buffon scored his first international goal – but it did not come for Italy.
Buffon made his name as a legendary keeper for people like Juventus, and played 176 times for his country – most player ever – and 685 times for Juventus.
He retired in 2023 and ended his career in Parma – still in his home country – that is the team with which he started his career before turning around and then Paris Saint -Germain.
In total he made almost 1000 club career appearances as a professional, and his retirement left a lasting legacy that is now somewhat continued by his son, Louis.
Louis plays for Pisa in Series B and recently makes his professional debut. But instead of following his father's footsteps as a shot stopper, is in fact an attacker.
And now, his talents to the international stage, he has taken another way to his father – by not playing for Italy.
Although he was born enormously in the country and legacy of his father, Louis has chosen to represent the Czech Republic.
This week he scored his first goal for the under-18 side, because they achieved an impression on 4-1 win over France.
The teenager qualifies to represent the Czech Republic through his mother, Alena Seedova, who married Buffon in 2011. She is a former Czech beauty winner of the beauty competition, in which Louis chooses to represent her country instead of Buffon's.
Buffon separated from Seedova in 2014, but Louis has a double citizenship – which means that he could still represent Italy at senior level in the future. Buffon is now married to Ilaria d'Amico.
Speaking at Buffon and Louis, former Czech Republic International Erich Brabec, who is now the technical director of the Czech youth teams of the Czech Republic, admitted that he was proud of having a legend's son in his setup.
“I don't know the opinion of Gianluigi Buffon, but after he found out that he was on our list of those who were called,” he said. “They contacted him from Italy.”
“Personally, I just organized everything that was needed with his mother, so that he could appear in the training camp with the team.”
Louis also played for Juventus earlier in his career and joined in 2020 before he closed in 2022 for CBA Scoula Calcio. He then joins the Pisa academy and is currently playing for their reserve team in the Primavera Division.
