Match report

Edmond Tapsoba scored a late own goal when the side of Xabi Alonso gives a 2-0 lead in Red Bull Arena to slide six points behind Bayern, who defeated Freiburg 2-1.

Everything seemed to be planning when Leverkusen broke the impasse in the 19th minute. Patrik Schick drilled a rebound home after Florian Wirtz hit the post after a beautiful individual run.

Wirtz was again involved when the ruling Bundesliga champions doubled their lead in 36 minutes and Aleix Garcia had taken on a tap-in after Peter Gulacsi had tipped his first effort on the woodwork.

Leipzig, however, stopped their shortage before the break thanks to a David Raum Vrije kick, while Benjamin Sesko was refused an equalizer in the second half.

Nevertheless, the hosts threw away part of the loot six minutes of the time, when Tapsoba turned a cross over Lukas Hradecky.

Debrief data: Hradecky picks up half a century

Leverkusen saw their 12-match winning streak about all competitions end after Leipzig's inspired comeback.

Nevertheless, they are now unbeaten in 26 consecutive league games, whereby only Bayern enjoys a longer such run in the history of Bundesliga (33 between 2012 and 2014).

In the meantime, Hradecky is unbeaten in his last 50 Bundesliga performances and he only becomes the second player to hit that brand after Jerome Boateng (56 between 2012 and 2014).

Wirtz continued his impressive form, in which the influential midfielder was now directly involved in 18 Bundesliga goals this season.

In the meantime, Schick took his goal for the campaign to 13 – all of whom have come since 8 November, where only Alexander Isak (14) scored more about Europe's top five competitions at the time.
