Lens will attempt to secure a club record transfer fee for the transfer of Manchester City target Abdukodir Khusanov, 20, according to a report from L'Equipe. The Premier League champions are reportedly leading the race to sign the 20-year-old centre-back, who has quickly established himself as one of Ligue 1's best young defenders. Khusanov joined Lens eighteen months ago from the Belarusian Energetik-BGU for a reduced price of €100,000. His contract expires in 2027.
L'Equipe understands that Manchester City director of football Txiki Begiristain has said that strong contacts have been established with Khusanov and his entourage and that transfer fees have been discussed with RC Lens. Artois CEO Pierre Dréossi has already confirmed that Lens will part with their most prized asset to balance the club's books.
The outlet adds that no offer has yet been received from Manchester City. However, Lens are adamant that they would not let Khusanov leave in return for less than €40m in order to maximize their chances of breaking their club record sale. The latter was Lois Openda's move to RB Leipzig in 2023, when Lens received a transfer fee ranging between €43 million and €46 million.
