Murphy knocks on the door of a potentially featherweight title shot and his timing could not be better. While Ilia Topuria leaves the belt, the featherweight division desperately needs new, fresh stars and Murphy is one of the best candidates.
It is almost four full years since Murphy last won a knockout victory. On UFC 267 against Makwan Amirkhani, Murphy landed a knockout blow similar to Jorge Masvidal's One-shot victory over Ben Askren.

Murphy and Amirkhani clashed on the UFC 267 Prelims on a map with the then of the then light heavyweight champion Jan Bachowicz against Glover Teixeira. Not much was expected by the featherweight matchup, but it delivered en masse with one of the largest highlights on the map.
A back and forth first round between Murphy and Amirkhani set up a hectic pace to start around. Amirkhani, one of the best featherweight grapplers at the time of the fight, shot for a Takedown in the hope of getting some momentum on his side.
But Murphy went perfectly against Amirkhani's shot perfectly with a knee that had beaten his opponent cold. It was a finish reminiscent of Masvidal's wild knockout from Askren with a five-second flying knee.
