Leroy Sane breaks silence on Arsenal transfer interest with telling update

Leroy Sane has confirmed he is in talks with Bayern Munich over an extension of his stay at the Allianz Arena and is reluctant to consider a return to the Premier League.

The German defender joined the Bundesliga giants from Manchester City in 2020 but has now entered the final year of his contract. As a result, Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool have all been linked with completing a deal for the winger after Sane appeared to change his mind about signing 12 months ago.

Potential candidates can talk to Sane about a possible deal from January, with clubs from outside Germany able to talk to the player. However, they may have already received a major blow from the 28-year-old, who appears determined to stay at Bayern if a deal is reached.

The ex-City striker mainly played from the bench this season under Vincent Kompany, but scored a total of 51 goals and 50 assists in 186 games for Bayern. In an interview with German newspaper BILD, Sane confirmed that he was only considering a future with his current side.

“We are in discussions,” he said. “I feel comfortable in Munich. I really feel comfortable. The talks are going very well. My focus at the moment is only on Bayern.”

Asked about the prospect of a return to the Premier League, Sane was not joking about his position. “I follow Premier League football, but the attraction for me is the club where I can show my best performances, develop and win titles,” he added. “I have that at Bayern.”

However, Sane will be hoping for more progress to come. Kompany, who played alongside the winger at the Etihad Stadium, has only featured the Germany international twice this season but heaped praise on him after the win over Benfica earlier this month.

“Leroy changed the game, you could say that,” said Kompany. “Leroy did very well after he came on.

“I'm very happy to have the quality of Leroy Sane and Michael Olise in the same position, not to mention Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry. They have all scored goals and contributed well so far this season.”

Manchester United and Arsenal are said to be going head-to-head for Sane's signature but will be left feeling disappointed by Sane's latest comments. Both clubs had hoped to gain proven Premier League experience, with the ex-City star claiming two league titles and a PFA Young Player of the Year award during his time in the division.
