Frenkie de Jong is happy to “let the newspapers talk about me” in the midst of speculation around his future in Barcelona.
Discussions between Barca and De Jong, who is under contract until June 2026, are reportedly stuck, but will resume at the end of this season.
An ankle injury saw Dutch International miss the last part of the last term, as well as Euro 2024, in which Ronald Koeman's side reached the semi -final.
Since the return to action, De Jong has made 29 performances this season in all competitions – his sixth with Barca since he came to Ajax – although only 12 of them have been as a starter.
Despite reports that suggest his future with the Blaugrana, the 27-year-old remains challenging.
“Let the newspapers talk about me,” De Jong told Ziggo Sport. “I've been here for a while, so I'm used to it. It can be frustrating. At some point they invented things, so I had to express myself.
With his fitness he added: “I feel good. I am in very good condition and I no longer think of my ankle during competitions.”
De Jong will hope to appear on Sunday, when Laliga leaders are confronted with third place Atletico Madrid in a blockbuster collision in Riyadh Air Metropolitano.
