Borussia Dortmund was reversed from a goal to crush Bayer Leverkusen 4-2 in the Bundesliga on Sunday to keep their Champions League-Hoop alive.
Match report
Dortmund, who reached the Champions League final last season, has now won six of their last seven league games to climb from 11 to fifth, and is now only one point behind Freiburg in fourth place.
Leverkusen, however, started better and took a deserved lead through Jeremie Frimpong in the 30th minute in what Xabi Alonso's last home game is in the Dugout.
The Spaniard announced on Friday that he will leave at the end of the season, after he joined in October 2022 and led them to the Interior Double last season without defeat, while also reaching the Europa League final.
Gregor Kobel held Dortmund in the first half and made essential saves, but after the goal of Leverkusen the visitors never watched.
It took only three minutes for Dortmund to be the same, where Julian Brandt came in from a cut -back Karim Adeyemi. They then doubled their lead in the 43rd minute and won the possession in half of Leverkusen, where Julian Ryerson completed the move with a low finish from the right.
Amine Adli headed against the woodwork during the break, but Leverkusen struggled to make something after the break.
The lethargic game of the hosts saw them losing possession again in the 73rd minute, with Marcel Sabitzer feeding the lightning speed that Adeyemi chooses to bring the score to 3-1.
Before Leverkusen had time to regroup, they gave a different goal when Serhou Guirassy caught up with his 20th league goal of the season for 77 minutes.
Jonas Hofmann put the shortage in the stopping time, with his header bouncing in the woodwork, but it was too little, too late for Leverkusen.
Dortmund -Gastheer relegated Holstein Kiel next week, with their Champions League Hoop just out of their own hands.

Data Debrief: Do not stop Dortmund
A place in Europe's top layer looked past Dortmund earlier this year, but a stunning run under Niko Kovac immediately put them back in the mix.
They are on an unbeaten line of seven games in the Bundesliga (W6 D1) and each win of their last four in a row, both club-best runs in 2024-25.
Guirassy again turned out to be an important part of their setup. He has now scored 63 goals in his 100 Bundesliga matches. Of all non-German players, only Roy Makaay scored more goals in his first 100 Bundesliga matches (64).
It was his 13th goal in the second half of the season, while now only Harry Kane (25) has scored more goals this season than the Guinea International (20).
