Xabi Alonso confirmed that Florian Wirtz has recovered from an injury and will be fit to start on Saturday at the Lage Union Berlin in the Bundesliga.
The 21-year-old, who scored nine goals and delivered 10 assists in the Bundesliga, became on the side at the beginning of March with a single cigament injury.
His return could not have come fast enough for the second place Leverkusen, who are six points behind Bayern Munich with six more games left this season.
“Flo is fit again, he is in the team, he can play, also from the beginning and that is very good,” Alonso told a press conference.
“We are a better team with Florian. We have better connections between the lines. He is the player who makes the difference for us.”
Reigning Champions Leverkusen has 62 points and no longer have time to catch Bayern, who also defeated them in the Champions League.
Leverkusen has won five of their last six Bundesliga matches (L1) – No party has recorded so many victories and claimed so many points (15) since the start of the matchday 23.
They also have a good record against Berlin and only lose them once in 11 previous Bundesliga meetings (W6 D4). At home against them, liverkusen unbeaten, wins three and attract two of those meetings and scored 14 goals in such competitions.
Leverkusen only gets a 3.7% chance to maintain their Bundesliga title by the OPTA Supercomputer, with Bayern the overwhelming favorites at 96.3%.
Alonso said it didn't make sense to look at the table, because it was clear that his team needed to win all their remaining competitions to have the chance to win the title.
“It is our job to put pressure on it [Bayern] And then we will see what happens, “said Alonso.
If Leverkusen Berlin would beat, they would move three points behind Bayern, which will be confronted in the Klassiker until Saturday on Saturday opposite Borussia Dortmund.
Bayern has a busy schedule with a trip to Inter next week before their Champions League quarterfinals second stage after losing the first 2-1 at home.
“Our goal is to win all matches,” said Alonso. “We know this is our only chance.
“We take the one game at the same time and see what comes out. We want to win tomorrow. We want to do our stones.”
