Levi Colwill injury news: Chelsea confirm anterior cruciate ligament surgery after defender suffered injury

Chelsea has confirmed that defender Levi Colwill has undergone a successful operation after the suffering of a front cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.

The 22-year-old reported on Monday to Cobham for training for the season before he suffered the setback during training.

A statement from the club was: “Medical assessments confirmed that surgery would be the required way of acting.

“Levi will now start his recovery and will be supported by the medical department of the club in Cobham during his rehabilitation phase.”

Colwill played 38 times in all competitions for Chelsea last season before he then came to England for matches against Andorra and Senegal as soon as the 2024/25 campaign was over.

He played 90 minutes during the 3-1 defeat against Senegal.

Colwill then flew to America for the club World Cup with Chelsea and played five games, including a 118 -minute outing against Benfica, on the way to lifting the trophy.

The news only comes a few hours after Tottenham confirmed that James Maddison had torn his ACL during their collision for the season against Newcastle.
