Barcelona could not convert the chances they created against Atletico Madrid and had to pay dearly for this in injury time. Several big names were no longer criticized after the results.
Dani Olmo saw the meager end of his life at Barcelona, but the more famous target man was Robert Lewandowski. According to Sport, teammate Gavi was also frustrated with the Polish striker.
In the final ten minutes of the first half, Atletico grew into the match and Gavi raised his arms at Lewandowski in frustration at his lack of pressure on the back line. As the players left the field after the half-time whistle, Gavi got into an animated conversation with Lewandowski and reprimanded him again. The veteran defended himself, saying that as the ball had widened he should not push forward on the defender, while both stood by their claim.
Lewandowski missed one offside sitter and barely managed to touch several balls across the penalty area. That said, their best chances were for Fermin Lopez, Raphinha and Pedri. However, the 36-year-old's ability to hold up physically in Hansi Flick's system has been one of the biggest doubts about him this season.
