Lewis-Skelly left speechless after netting England debut goal

Miles Lewis-Skelly said he was “lost for words” after scoring his debut in England to help them in a 2-0 win over Albania in the first match of Thomas Tuchel.

The teenager opened the score in the first half, with Harry Kane and took care of the victory in the second to send England TOP of their world cup qualifying group after the first game.

Lewis Skelly is the age of 18 and 176 and is the youngest player in history scoring on his senior debut in England and surpasses the record of Marcus Rashford of 18 years and 209 days against Australia in May 2016.

In general, he is the third-jongest scorer ever for the Drie Leeuwen, behind Wayne Rooney (17y 317d in September 2003) and Michael Owen (18Y 164d in May 1998).

“I am lost for words,” Lewis-Skelly told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“The past six months have gone so fast. I stay in the present and I take every moment as it comes.

'I found out [he would be starting] In the morning, in the meeting, and when I saw my name, my heart started to pound – I was so excited.

“To be honest, it's incredible – this is a day that I will never forget.”

He added to his goal: “The only thing I remember staying wide and rotating with Marcus Rashford. Jude likes to stay on the half corner. It was a great pass of him and the timing was very good.

“The finish, the keeper came to me and I tried to put it between the legs. I didn't even think I was going to score.”

England was dominant everywhere and enjoyed 74.2% of the possession, and they also found the bar in by a different debutant than Burn, who could not hold down his towering header.

The three lions had 12 shots against Albania, with six on goal, because they collected 1.58 expected goals (XG), while they limited their opponents to only three attempts (0.06 xg), with Jordan Pickford not tested.

Despite the comfortable victory in his first game that was in charge, Tuchel admitted that he thinks England can still improve, with one eye on their next match against Latvia on Monday.

“We can do better, we have to do better,” Tuchel told ITV. “We started well; we had seven or eight minutes with 100% possession with many passes and high energy.

“The opponent is hard to break down while they defend in a deep block.

“In the euros they managed not to admit. The second half I felt that we were too slow and in general not run enough of the ball to get behind the line.”

Asked about the impact of Lewis-Skelly on his debut, he added: “Great player. Great personality.

“He came to the camp and immediately showed that it is normal to fall in love with him. It is well deserved.”
