Liam Delap has been given permission to speak with other clubs, with Ipswich expecting this summer.
Newcastle and Chelsea are interested in signing Delap, with both clubs fighting to end in the Champions League places in the Premier League.
Last week, Sky Sports News reported that Manchester United was supposed to be in pole position to sign Delap. However, it was expected that his final decision would be influenced by whether United won the Europa League and qualified for the Champions League of next season. They lost 1-0 to Spurs on Wednesday evening.
Delap has a release clause of £ 30 million in his Ipswich contract after their relegation.
When he was asked about Delap's transfer coupling with Manchester United, Kieran McKenna said: “Liam looks at his options for next year, what I think he is right to do, and we support him with that.
“So yes, we gave him permission to do that this week.
“It is a very important decision for his future. Of course there is a lot of interest and rightly so. So that has been part of his week, he had some of those conversations.
“It looks like, I don't think he will continue this summer. He is interested in almost every club in the competition. I don't think there are many clubs in the world that he would not want to have. So I think it is more likely than not that he will continue.
“Of course nothing is sorted, nothing has been done or completed or even I think very, very, very close. That process will be running.
“We will of course be proud of the part we have had in terms of Liam's development and his contribution this season.
“If he stays with us, we will be happy. If he continues this summer, then it is a positive sign for the club, a positive step for the club, to have developed and sold a player at that kind of level. Hopefully it will be a good move for him.”

“The striker has achieved double digits for goals in his first full crack in the Premier League and that is even more impressive considering the struggles that his degraded Ipswich had at this level.
“He has been the driving force of their attack, scored from all corners and distances while he also pulled the team in the field with his runs with and without the ball. It is this range of skills that make it stand out.
“A frontman with the possibility of keeping the ball up, while he is also one of the top 25 Premier League players for Take-Ons is a rare thing. His over performance of his expected goals shows his finishing capacity. Delap is ready for the next step.
“Where that will be and how Delap would fit into a different system is intriguing. But it is no wonder that there is great interest in the 22-year-old English Youth International.
“His £ 30 million release clause is far below the listed price tag for some strikers on the continent linked to a switch to the Premier League that would be a little more a risk. Investing in Delap seems to be a smart move.”
