Lisandro Martinez will probably miss the rest of the season after a cross -blister from cruciate ligament during the defeat of Manchester United to Crystal Palace on Sunday.
The Argentina International was carried on a stretcher in tears on the field after stopping the injury in the loss of the Premier League, so now revealed that he suffered a non -specific injury to his cruciate ligament.
The injury of the 27-year-old will be a big blow to Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim, whose side wastes in the 13th in the table after a 11th league-defeat of the season.
A statement from Man Utd read: “Manchester United can confirm that Lisandro Martinez sustained an injury to his cruciate ligament in Sunday's game against Crystal Palace.
“Assessment of the injury is underway to determine the right treatment course and the time frame for his rehabilitation.
“Everyone at Manchester United wishes Lisandro Martinez strength for a successful recovery and we will support him every step of the road.”
Although United has not officially ruled the rest of the season, the restoration of a serious cruciate ligament injury usually takes a minimum of six months.
Despite Martinez's injury, Manchester United did not land late defensive coverage in the last hours of the January transfer window.
The feeling in Old Trafford was that Amorim has many options in the middle with Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire, Matthijs de Ligt, Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans and new teenager who signs Ayden Heaven, while Luke Shaw, Noussair Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot Can also fill the position in if necessary.
