On Saturday the funeral of Diogo Jota was held in Portugal, and many of his former teammates were present. One that could not go was Trent Alexander-Arnold, because he was involved with Real Madrid at the Club World Cup.
Trent had been teammates with Jota for five years prior to his Real Madrid movement earlier this step, and during that period they developed a very close relationship. As such, it was very difficult for him to hear the news of his sudden death earlier this week.
Speaking with Dazn (via Cahteroffside) after the World-final victory of Real Madrid's Club World-Cup on Borussia Dortmund, Trent Treent about this issue and gave an emotional tribute to his former teammate.
“It is real, really heartbreaking to wake up with so new. It is something you would never expect. He was a very good friend, someone who lit every room when he sat in it. I shared a dressing room with him for five years and I have amazing memories with him. It goes without saying that someone will be forgotten by someone.”
It is a very difficult situation for Trent, which has a solid support system around him at Real Madrid to help treat the news. It is likely that he will not be able to fully digest or mourn the news until the club world is over, at what time he can return to Liverpool for a period of time before the preseason starts.
It will be difficult for Trent to concentrate 100% on the efforts of Real Madrid's Club World Cup, but he will be happy to help his new club win the tournament. The side of Xabi Alonso will be confronted with Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-final next week, and the victory in that would set up a final against Chelsea or Fluminense.
