Liverpool 5-1 Tottenham: Slot’s men cruise to title at jubilant Anfield

Liverpool achieved their second Premier League title with four more games on Sunday, making Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 on Anfield to complete the job in style.

Arne Slot's Reds needed only one point of their last five games of the season after the 2-2 draw of Arsenal with Crystal Palace on Wednesday, and they wasted no time to make things officially.

The 12th minute Header of Dominic Solanke threatened to spoil the game on Merseyside, but such worries were swept aside in fast time when Liverpool reacted brilliantly.

Luis Diaz learned the right-wing center of Dominik Szoboszlai in the 16th minute to bring the score to 1-1, with the goal initially not allowed for the outside, but was given after a VAR check.

Liverpool was ahead eight minutes later when Alexis Mac Allister Guglielmo Vicario defeated with a blockbuster of 20 meters on his weaker left foot, after a wild press forced traces to give possession near the corner of the box.

And the title Triumph by Liverpool was above all doubt in the 34th minute, because Cody Gakpo found the top left corner after Tottenham's abject failure to erase a set.

Liverpool should have had a fourth early in the second half when Gakpo seemed to pass to Salah instead of closing Vicario, but the brilliant Egyptian came to the ACT in the 63rd minute and sent an inverted shot in the right corner to the counterattack.

The score was completed six minutes later when the cross of Trent Alexander-Arnold over the line was touched by Destiny Udogie with Salah lurking and slaughtering a dream day for Liverpool.

The full -time whistle led to memorable scenes when Liverpool extended their lead on top to an unassailable 15 points with only 12 to play in.

In the meantime, Spurs remains 16th after another demoralizing loss, with a semi-final draw from the Europa League against Bodo/Glimt that defines their season.

Data Debrief: Liverpool back on their perch

When the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson took over the boss of Manchester United, he promised to “hit Liverpool of their perch”.

When Ferguson left Old Trafford, United had 20 English top-flight titles to the 18 from Liverpool, but Slot has now dragged the level of Merseyside Giants with their large rivals, seven titles free of the third placed Arsenaal.

After getting through an early fear, Liverpool was completely dominant against a lifeless Tottenham team.

They have now scored five or more goals in four different Premier League matches against Spurs, including a 6-3 victory in the Reverse Fermatuur of December. That is their joint against every opponent in the competition and does this four times against Norwich City and Watford.

While Udogie's own goal closed the score, the award -winning moment came when Salah yielded his 28th Premier League goal of the season.

He is now only one target involvement for the record of one season, held together by Andy Cole (for Newcastle United in 1993-94) and Alan Shearer (for Blackburn Rovers in 1994-95), both of which managed 47 combined goals and assists in 42-game campaigns.

Spurs has already lost 19 Premier League matches this season, their joint-mast in every campaign next to 1993-94 and 2003-04.
