Branthwaite was happy to stay seated and his stock continued to rise this season, especially impressive under new manager David Moyes. But the recent form of Branthwaite was not enough to earn a place in the first English team of Thomas Tuchel.

Instead, the 32-year-old Newcastle defender was preferred. Branthwaite made his debut in England in June 2024, but missed traveling to the European Championship when Gareth Southgate chose his last 26-man team.

Moyes did not seem to agree that Tuchel said Tuchel's decision to sniff Branthwaite and earlier this month the 1-1 draw of Everton with West Ham said: “I don't choose the English team, so I can only say if you look at the last six or seven weeks that Jarrad Branthwaite would play and an English center in the country.

Should Jarrad Branthwaite consider a move to Liverpool? Say in the commentary part.

“But the big thing he has to do? Go and play for England under 21 and be the best player again, and then he is selected again. That is the instructions I have given him – see what you can do for the 21s and Lee Carsley will give good information to the manager and hopefully it will come back.

“He does not have to pick up because he is currently a young center half. You have to learn how to improve, and I told him to play very well for the under-21s and to show Thomas that he should have taken you in the team.”
