According to a report from Foot Mercato, Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool are both leading the race to sign Rayan Cherki (21) from Olympique Lyonnais.
The France youth international was banned at the start of the season due to a contract impasse. His contract was due to expire at the end of the season, but was eventually extended for another year, allowing his reintegration. Since then, he has scored five goals and registered seven assists in seventeen games. Since breaking through as a teenager, this is his first consistent form.
However, the Frenchman may leave the club in January. Although OL are reportedly keen to keep Cherki, they may have little choice. Lyon will be forced to raise money in January following provisional relegation to Ligue 2. Selling assets such as Cherki will avoid that fate, even if other more peripheral figures have been touted for departure.
Although Cherki is reportedly keen to finish the season with his formative club, the matter will be taken out of his hands if a club meets OL's €30 million price tag. According to Foot Mercato, Liverpool and PSG are keen to recruit the forward in January, although Get French Football News understands Les Parisiens will not return for Cherki after being rejected by the player in the summer.
