Liverpool announce Frimpong signing after Alexander-Arnold exit

Liverpool started their summer transfer activities by announcing the arrival of Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen with a five -year contract.

Just a few hours after he announced that Trent Alexander-Arnold would come to Real Madrid on time to play in the club World Cup, the Reds quickly moved to sign his replacement.

The Premier League champions have activated Frimpong's release clause of € 35 million (£ 29.5 million), whereby the transfer is expected to be fully completed when the window is opened on Sundays.

Frimpong played an integral role in helping Leverkusen to their first Bundesliga title in 2023-24 and made 53 performances in all competitions when they finished second in 2024-25.

The Dutch international has indeed scored more goals (19) than any other defender in Europe's top five competitions in all competitions since the start of the 2023-24 campaign.

Frimpong joins a Dutch contingent from Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch in Anfield, and will soon be able to welcome one of his Leverkusen teammates in Merseyside.

“It was pretty simple. Liverpool came and said they were interested, and for me it was clearly a no-brainer,” Frimpong said the official website of Liverpool.

“For me it was like:” Whatever you do, just get this done, ” [speaking to] My agents: “Just get this done.”

“Liverpool fans, I'm going to give my everything, my energy, my working speed, and hopefully we can win together, we celebrate together, get everything together.

“I am just excited to be here. Thank you for accepting me and I will not let you down, and I will give you the energy you want.”
