Liverpool should again ignite their interest in Anthony Gordon if they allow Luis Diaz to leave, according to former Anfield favorite Jan Mølby.
Diaz, 28, is a fixed value for the Reds since he joined the FC Porto club in January 2022. However, speculation about the wishes of the Colombia International to move to Barcelona has been busy in the last 12 months.
After starting the season as a house on fire, the form of Diaz has been rented in recent weeks.
And Mølby, who played more than 200 games for Liverpool during his own career, thinks that his old club has already identified the perfect Diaz replacement in Gordon, which they had the opportunity to sign last summer.
The Dane told Aceodds.com: “The Luis Diaz -thing is a bit strange. Is he arranged or is he restless? We have heard quotes from his family and he looked at Barcelona at a certain stage.
“I think the majority of the players want to stay in Anfield because you know what you have at the club.”
Mølby continued: “Anthony Gordon is a great player and look at the improvement of his game. In Everton he was good but inconsistent. He went to Newcastle and did very well.
“With his pace and working speed, Plus consistency would be great. It would be like taking him home. He comes from the city of Liverpool, so it would be a great deal. “
Gordon, 23, made a name for himself with the arch rivals of Liverpool, Everton, before reaching new heights in Newcastle after a transfer in January 2023. He was strongly connected to a £ 80 million switch in the summer because of the necessity followed by the win – and sustainability rules of the Premier League, and while he finally stayed, conversations were held about a potential deal.
The flying wing player, who in a recent episode of his own competition revealed that his family is all “really bitter Liverpool fans”, was released by the Reds as an 11-year-old.
If Liverpool Diaz were to sell in the summer and revive their interest in the English star, then Newcastle would be in a strong position after binding Gordon to a new long -term contract in October.
Diaz has scored 12 goals in 33 games and plays a crucial role in the unexpected title challenge of Liverpool. Spanish Outlet Mundo Deportivo recently repeated that he is being seen as a 'feasible' summer goal for Barcelona, who have a long -term interest in the player.
