Liverpool is expected to lose Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid in the summer, but new rules that were introduced by FIFA in 2024 can earn the Reds a neat bonus
Real Madrid-bound Trent Alexander-Arnold could still get a seven-digit fee when he leaves Liverpool has been claimed. The right back is without a contract in the summer, so that he can leave for free at the end of June, but the Spanish giants could hide a neat amount to help the deal ahead.
Alexander-Arnold has agreed the conditions for a Real Madrid switch after long-term negotiations, according to reports on the continent. He could not play for his new club before the end of the season, but the club World Cup is a completely different business.
In October FIFA changed its transfer rules to take into account the summer tournament in the United States. The changes could take the participants in the World Cup Club World Cup agreement with an 'exceptional' transfer window for the tournament, so that players can participate in competing clubs for the tournament on time.
Those rules would also allow the contract players to participate before 30 June, although it is still too seen whether Liverpool would free Alexander-Arnold to leave for nothing. They already rejected an offer in January, which it was thought to be worth around £ 20 million.
Now the Sun reports that Madrid must separate by around £ 5 million to pick up the 26-year-old at the beginning of June. The defender, currently sidelined with an injury that is being sustained in the exit of the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain, will play his last Liverpool match against Crystal Palace on 25 May.
Alexander-Arnold is not the only player who could leave his contract in advance. Arsenal -Midfender Jorginho becomes the target of the participants in the World Cup of Club World Cup, Flamengo, who are in the Chelsea group in the competition.
Jorginho stabbed further conversations during the break, but it has been claimed that a bottleneck is a loyalty bonus. The Italy -International would run the risk of forfeiting Bonus if he leaves before 30 June, and further conversations are expected with the incoming new sports director of Arsenal.
Real Madrid qualified for the Club World Cup thanks to their Champions League triumph in 2022. They will start their campaign on June 18 against Al-Hilal of Saudi Arabia, with their group also including the Mexican side Pachuca and Red Bull Salzburg of the Austrian Bundesliga.
If they win their group, Los Blancos will play their round of 16 lover on July 1, while the final will take place on July 13 in New Jersey. The Premier League has two representatives in the tournament, where Chelsea and Manchester City qualified on the basis of their own Champions League victories in 2021 and 2023 respectively.
One of the first opponents of Chelsea, Club Leon, was taken out of the tournament due to considerations with several club ownership. The new fourth team in their group – which also includes Flamengo and Esperance – is not exactly at the time of writing.
