Real Madrid's involvement at the World Cup club means that they are reportedly willing to pay Liverpool a fee to sign Alexander-Arnold early.
The Spanish giants are strongly connected to a movement for Alexander-Arnold, but had rejected an offer by Liverpool in the January transfer window. However, the English International is without a contract at the end of the season and will be able to join Madrid during a free transfer next summer.
According to a new report from The Sun, Liverpool could still bank transfer costs, because Madrid wants Alexander-Arnold to be available for the club World Cup. The contract of the right back will not be until 30 June and the tournament will start on 14 June, which means that Madrid should reach an agreement with Liverpool to release Alexander-Arnold early from his deal.
The report adds that the summer transfer window will be opened at the beginning of this year on 1 June, which means that new signing sessions can play at the club World Cup, while FIFA has also created an “exceptional registration name” with which clubs can be replaced in the tournament to replace players in their team between 27 and 3 July.
However, it is claimed that Liverpool 'did not give up the hope' that Alexander-Arnold will decide to stay in Anfield, with manager Arne Slot who insists in January that the 26-year-old “fully dedicated” for the club.
“I fully understand the question and why you ask, but you already know the answer: these conversations that I have never shared, not about Trent, not about others, about what I talk to them about,” said Slot.
“It was a conversation so many others we had, I and Trent, so let's let it go. I can tell you that he is playing on Sunday and hopefully he brings the same performances as he brought in the last half year, because everyone saw how great a first half of the season he had, how much he is here, how much he wants to win here.
“I see him working on his A ** every day in the training area. He is fully committed to us and he will play on Sunday.
“If the players in Liverpool were to destabilize if other people talk about them, we would really have a problem, because if you play at one of the largest clubs in the world, everyone is always talking about you for 12 months, sometimes with regard to other clubs.
“That happens so often for our players, so if that destabilizes them, we would really have had a problem, not only in the last six months because there were about our players about our players in the last six months and I don't think it did not destabilize them at all.”
