A former director of Liverpool admitted that he thought that Mohamed Salah did not earn a new contract in 2022.
The Egyptian star has only had a few months over his current deal on Anfield. If a new contract is not signed, he would be free to have nothing to come at the end of the campaign.
It is not the first time that Salah has had the core of a row over his future in Liverpool. He also stood towards the end of his deal in 2022, but eventually wrote a new three -year contract with the Reds.
Liverpool's former research director Ian Graham has since explained that he would like to propose not to give Salah a new deal before the club carried out a U-turn. Speaking at the Financial Times Business of Football Summit, he said: “I helped with the work for the last contract extension that he spends until this summer.
“And at the time I went to think, with players of this age, I will recommend not to expand his contract. But the power of data forces you to take an objective point of view and sometimes you can surprise yourself.
“As players
Tell me, it is usually a drop in minutes instead of a decrease in quality. It is a matter of physical fitness instead of their skills falling away.“I was surprised in the summer of 2022 [the data showed] We must give Salah a new contract. That was a hard piece of work and I am happy that I am not responsible for that piece of work today! “
Salah recently dropped a new hint on his future as a Liverpool player and it seems to be the clearest indication he could leave. Asked if there are developments, he shook his head and said, “In a very polite way!”
He added: “I want fans to remember that I gave it all to the fans, I gave it all to the city. I was here, I was not lazy, I just enjoyed my football and gave it all.
“I think that's what the city is about – they give you love and you have a bond with them because you give everything. I just want them to remember that I was here eight years old – and I gave it all.
“To be eight years here is not something that I naturally consider. Playing in a top club like Liverpool, who fight for every trophy every year, is incredible. I have the feeling that I am in very good condition and try to make sure that not only I improve, but that the players around me also improve.”
