Liverpool end Man Utd’s winning run, Arsenal go second in WSL

Liverpool ended the seven-game extraction run of Manchester United with a 3-1 victory statement in Anfield, while Arsenal jumped the Red Devils to become second in the Women's Super League.

With leaders Chelsea not in action this weekend due to their end date of the League Cup with Manchester City, United had the chance to move from the top within five points.

The Marc Skinner team had won seven consecutive league matches since he went to Sonia Bompastor's Blues 1-0 in November, but they were torn apart by a reviving Liverpool.

A nice Rachael laws stopped preventing Celin Bizet United to put in the foreground early, and Liverpool struck in the 42nd minute, because Phallon Tullis-Joyce did not have the efforts of Olivia Smith outside of a tight corner.

Liverpool was forced to absorb a lot of pressure in the first half, but they went into the interval with a 2-0 lead when Fuka Nagano changed the cross of Samantha Kerr into the right corner.

The hope of United on a comeback was deposited just after the hour of the series when Jayde Riviere brought Alejandra Bernabe within the area, allowing Smith to fire home for her second of the game.

Maya le Tissier produced a nice run and ended up late, but that turned out to be just a consolation, because Liverpool made it two wins in so many WSL matches since firing Matt Beard and Amber Whiteley appointed as an interim coach.

The Slip-up of United allowed Arsenal to jump in the table, with the Gunners deserved a 3-1 victory in Everton to go above the Red Devils on target difference.

Alessia Russo returned home to open the score in the 24th minute, for the 14th time in all competitions this campaign, but Everton hit back 12 minutes later when Toni Payne bundled at the rebound after a blocked Katja Snoeijs effort.

Arsenal had signed 1-1 last season on their most recent WSL trip to Everton, but they would not be denied this time.

Caitlin Foord came from the bank and immediately fed Emily Fox, and Everton -defender Maren Mjelde changed the inviting cross of the latter to her own network.

Russo got her second and Arsenal's third in stopping, and took Beth Mead's pass in her pass to bypass Courtney Brsnan and Slot home.

Data Debrief: Williamson makes club history, United Fall Short

Arsenal -captain Leah Williamson made her 158th WSL appearance for the club on Friday and sealed its place in the history books of Gunners.

That took her free from Jordan Nobbs as the leading appearance maker of Arsenal in the competition.

Mead in the meantime came closer and closer to her own milestone, because she is now only two assists removed to become the first player to take in the WSL for half a century.

But there would be no share in history for United, who could have won eight consecutive WSL games for the second time, earlier between March and October 2023.

Instead, Interim Liverpool -Baas Whiteley became the first Reds coach to win their first two WSL matches that are in charge of the club.
