Liverpool enter race for highly-rated La Liga midfielder

Liverpool came very close to signing Martin Zubimendi last summer and it appears they have now set their sights on a new La Liga midfielder, although this would be a deal just as difficult to achieve – but for different reasons.

Zubimendi strongly considered a move to Merseyside last summer before ultimately deciding to stay at boyhood club Real Sociedad. Now Anfield Watch has reported that the Premier League leaders have set their sights on Real Betis kingpin Johnny Cardoso.

Cardoso has performed excellently for Betis since joining from Internacional last January, putting him on the minds of countless clubs. One of these is Tottenham Hotspur, who can sign him for just €25 million at the end of the season, according to a pre-agreed clause with Betis.

Liverpool would certainly have to pay more to Betis, who will certainly find it difficult to keep Cardoso at the end of this summer's transfer window. While a deal would be difficult for the Reds, the will of the player, who would certainly be keen to move to Anfield, could make things easier.
