Liverpool face contract drama as Salah remains open to Saudi move

Liverpool would remain convinced that they will retain the services of Mohamed Salah after this season, but there is still interest in the Egyptian from Saudi Arabia

Liverpool's confidence about reaching an agreement with Mohamed Salah on a new contract seems to be likely to be tested in the coming weeks after claims from the Saudi Pro League that the Egyptian wing player is still considering a shock movement to the Midden -East.

Salah, 32, has been a long-term objective for Saudi clubs and was the subject of a monster £ 150 million bid from Al-Eittihad in the summer of 2023. He is also in the last six months of his contract in Anfield and to date there has still been no update whether Player and Club are close to an extension.

It was a difficult few days before the Reds after reports that another of their contract stars, Trent Alexander-Arnold, agreed to join Real Madrid with a free transfer.

Although his future now appears to be Anfield, it is said that Liverpool will make sure that Salah and their club captain, Virgil van Dijk, will register, with the duo that is said to be 'desperate to stay'.

But that has been contradicted by a new report from the Telegraph that claims that clubs in Saudi are confident that Salah remains open for the prospect of making a lucrative move abroad.

It is explained that Salah is interesting for Al-Hilal with the Saudi champions who would like to add more star power to their team after saying goodbye to Neymar.

A source accepts that Salah has given priority to negotiations with Liverpool while weighing his future and it is clear that staying in Anfield would be the player's preference. However, the same source still believes that Salah will be 'registered' when his deal ends.

If Salah does give a lucrative switch to Al-Hilal the green light, such a movement is very unlikely that there will be World Cup in June before the start of the club. The Saudi champions will participate in the tournament, organized by FIFA.

When he was asked again if this season would be his last in Liverpool – after earlier emphasized there was “no update” about progress above a new deal – Salah Sky Sports told: “So far, yes. It's the last six months [of his deal].

“There is no progress there. We are far away from any progress. So we just have to wait and see. The thing in my head is that if this is the last six months, what do you want to see in the future? Do you want to look back and say that I was worried about the contract? Or do you just want to say that I had an unbelievable season? That is in my head.

“If I ever feel distraction, I remind myself that I want to look back and say that I had an incredible season. That's what I want to do.”
