Liverpool lost the 2022 Champions League final to Real Madrid in Paris, but it was the treatment before the competition started that led to three years of reviews
The French Justice Minister has finally apologized to Fans of Liverpool for the chaos during the 2022 Champions League final in Paris after they initially faulted them – and Jurgen Klopp.
Gerald Daranin was the French Minister of the Interior – the equivalent of the Minister of the Interior – when the competition with Real Madrid was delayed and the police used Pepperspray on thousands of Reds supporters who were locked up outside the Stade de France. They were also attacked by French hooligans.
In a press conference on the following Monday, the right-wing politician claimed to 40,000 supporters without tickets or with falsified tickets caused the problems and claimed that Klopp had encouraged them to travel to Paris without tickets.
But now Darmanin has admitted: “Yes, it was a failure. Because I had not checked what happened well, what my fault was, and because I admitted to precipitated ideas. The perpetrator was easy (to indicate), and I apologize at Liverpool fans. Of course they were right (region).
“On the video surveillance images we see a red crowd of Liverpool supporters, full of the gates and the riot police that stops them. I have been told that there is a crowd increase. The first analysis we make is:” They cause chaos. ” That is what I hear at the security post;
“During my first public outing (at the press conference on Monday) I said what I was told, namely:” Well, the English cause chaos. “It was not true in the literal sense of the word.”
The final was moved to Paris with only three months of notice period after UEFA Russia had undressed to organize the competition in St. Petersburg after the invasion of Ukraine. “Our security system was not designed for that at all. The CRS (Riot Police), mobile gendarmes with large boots and shields, they are not great to run,”
Darmanin told the YouTube show 'Legend'. “We are wrong. We were expecting a hooligan war, and instead we got people who came to steal.”
During his press conference at the French Ministry of Sport after the final, Darmanin had said: “The presence of so many British fans without tickets already happened, especially in 2019 in Madrid. And it created similar types of difficulties.
“There were the same problems at Wembley last year. The behavior, the disorganization and a huge market in fake tickets. And I remind you that the Liverpool coach called on a few days ago to come to France, even without tickets.”
UEFA-appointed researchers held the prevailing body of European football, usually responsible for chaotic safety errors. .
“It is remarkable that nobody has lost his life,” the research panel wrote in a 220 -page document published in February 2023. “The Panel has concluded that UEFA, as the owner of the event, is bearing primary responsibility.”
