Liverpool is looking for a new attacker to ensure that they retain their Premier League title and Alexander Isak of Newcastle has been identified as their primary transfer target
Fans of Liverpool will remember how Captain Virgil van Dijk exchanged words with Alexander Isak after their Carabao Cup Final League against the Magpies in March – while the Reds continue to haunt the £ 125 million striker.
The side of Arne Slot is ramping their bid to sign a new striker this summer after they have already spoken more than £ 170 million on a series of new signing sessions.
That included destroying their transfer record to secure the addition of £ 116.5 million of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen – and they might have to do this again if they want to bring Isak to Anfield.
The Sweden International has emerged as the next goal of the next priority transfer of Liverpool, but a deal looks difficult to complete, with Newcastle extremely reluctant to lose their valued striker.
It is, however, understood that the Reds could spend around £ 125 million in order to make the Magpies a bid, with lock who would like to complement a top as a supplement to his already impressive attacking options.
Liverpool met Isak in their disappointing 2-1 defeat against Newcastle in the Carabao Cup Final four months ago.
The 25-year-old found the back of the net when he delivered Newcastle's second goal at Wembley and spoke with Van Dijk after the game.
The Dutchman was filmed whisper in the ear of the striker and that led to wild speculation on social media among fans of Liverpool.
Some had theoretized that Van Dijk had told him “See you in the summer” or “See you in the preseason”.
Another added: “That was absolutely Alex who said to Virg 'you see next season'. I am so happy that I could cry.”
“Virg tells Isak that he will be Liverpool's number 9 next season”, read a further message from a Liverpool fan on Twitter.
If Liverpool cannot get a deal for Isak over the line, they could change their attention to Hugo Ekitike after they reportedly approached his club Eintracht Frankfurt about a movement.
Newcastle has had an £ 70 million offer that has been rejected by Frankfurt, who will reportedly persist around £ 85 million.
