Liverpool given reality check over transfer plan for Mo Salah successor

Thomas Frank tried to ward off Liverpool from Bryan Mbeumo by claiming that his asking price would be “pretty high”. The Cameroon International has enjoyed a sensational season for Brentford this period.

Frank doubled his claim in a further interview with Sky Sports – but in particular did not state from the sale of Mbeumo. “I am the head coach, I want my best players to stay forever,” he said. “I know that Bryan is very happy to be here in Brentford, he blooms, is doing well and plays fantastic. What will happen in the future? I don't know.

“I have often said: we are a sales club. But at the same time we have to strengthen that there are 10 clubs in the world that do not sell clubs.

“So, of course, if the right price – and that is going to be expensive – is coming, then I know for sure that the club will be open for it. But I am very happy that it is here, and I am convinced that Bryan will still like to play football here.”

Mbeumo, signed from the French side Troyes in 2019, is on schedule for the best scores season of his career to date. And Frank has supported him to reach the monument of 20 goals for the campaign during the last weeks.

“I really hope so, because again, that would be fantastic for him and fantastic for us,” he added. “I think he will do that. I am comfortable, he will reach the goal. But he has to do it. We have to do it.”

Mbeumo has just over a year left on his contract in West London. He has not been the only Brentford star who shines this season, where Yoane Wissa also achieved 16 Premier League goals.
