Liverpool had NO contact over Nunez as reports said Milan were preparing for him

AC Milan have not yet contacted Liverpool about a move for Darwin Nunez in the January transfer window.

Nunez, 25, has had a disappointing season at Anfield so far in the 2024-2025 campaign. He scored just four goals in 23 games in all competitions.

The Uruguayan joined the Reds in the summer of 2022 for a fee rising to £85 million, but his time on Merseyside has been plagued by struggles in front of goal.

Despite his ability to produce standout moments, Nunez scored 37 times in 119 appearances, with his performances characterized by inconsistency and a lack of clinical finishing.

Arne Slot has favored using Luis Diaz or Diogo Jota in a central striking role this season, raising questions about Nunez's future at the club, although he remains popular among supporters.

And reports in Italy earlier this week claimed AC Milan were plotting a move for the striker.

The move would initially have been a six-month loan, with a £41.5m purchase commitment in the summer.

However, Mail Sport understands that Liverpool have not heard from the Italian giants regarding the forward.

While it is still extremely early in the January transfer window and things could change, it is unlikely that Liverpool would allow Nunez to leave without a replacement lined up.

This is particularly relevant as they are well-placed in all four competitions they find themselves in, with the Reds likely to face a hectic fixture list during the second half of the season.

Liverpool currently sit at the top of both the Premier League and the Champions League, where they have already automatically qualified for the last 16.

They also face Tottenham in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final next week and host League Two side Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup third round this month.

Slot's side are back in action on Sunday when they host struggling Manchester United, with Nunez eager to score his third Premier League goal of the season.

Meanwhile, AC Milan are eighth in Serie A and appointed former Porto boss Sergio Conceicao this week following the sacking of Paulo Fonseca.
