Crystal Palace Captain Marc Guehi started the last year of his contract and will be sold this summer as Liverpool or Tottenham pay the asking price of the center-back
Crystal Palace knows that the summer transfer window represents their last chance to cash in Marc Guehi – and their attitude plays in the hands of Liverpool.
Guehi has entered with Palace for the last 12 months of his current contract and has made it clear that he will not sign a new one. The defender of England has been interested in rival Premier League for some time and could finally leave the South London Club.
Newcastle pushed hard to try to sign Guehi last summer, but eventually came back because they were not willing to pay the asking price of £ 70 million from Palace. Now his contract ends in less than a year, Palace has reduced their appreciation, but only to around £ 50 million.
Liverpool is not the only interested party, with Mirror Football report on Monday that Tottenham has made it clear that they are also in the race. Spurs offered £ 70 million for the center in January, only to see it being rejected by Palace, and are ready to return this summer.
First-Cheice Pairing Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven struggled last season with injuries and Romero was linked to Atletico Madrid this summer.
Spurs will potentially meet the £ 50 million valuation of £ 50 million, with Liverpool about to take their expenses to almost £ 300 million as soon as the £ 79 million signing of Hugo Ekitike by Eintracht Frankfurt is above the line.
Now. The Athletic report David Ornstein has given an update on the situation from a palace perspective, which suggests that they are ready to 'money in'.
He told Sky Sports News: “We know that Liverpool is enthusiastic about the right price. Reports today suggest that Tottenham, who made an offer for him in January, does not forget, are still in the mix.
“I think Palace would like to cash in instead of losing him for free next summer, but he has the power in his hands. He is very happy in Crystal Palace, because of its sounds, and I don't think he would be afraid to go to the end of his deal. It doesn't look like a new contract on the agenda.
“And I think Marc Guehi, with total respect for Crystal Palace, will play at the top of Champions League football, whether it is sooner or later, and therefore, yes, you suspect that this will be one of the stories of the transfer window in the coming weeks.”
Liverpool is looking for a center-back after the sale of Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen for £ 35 million this summer. In the meantime, there are also doubts about the future of Ibrahima Konate, which is strongly connected to Real Madrid after rejecting the offer of a new contract with Liverpool.
