Liverpool miss out on windfall as secret £40m transfer clause ignored

Liverpool recorded a clause in their transfer agreement with Sheffield United from five years ago and unfortunately for Arne Slot it did not end up because the Reds did not receive a boost

Liverpool missed a handy windfall after former player Rhian Brewster Sheffield United left. Earlier this week, the attacker signed a free transfer for Derby County after he did not agree to a new contract with the knives prior to another season in the championship.

Brewster signed a two-year contract with the Rams and left last season with Bramall Lane after 42 times before Sheffield United, when the party fell into the Play-off final in Wembley Stadium. The 25-year-old scored only nine goals in 119 performances for the Yorkshire side and joins a derby team that has already signed strikers in Carlton Morris and Patrick Agyemang from Luton Town and Charlotte FC in recent weeks.

The striker was offered new conditions by United, with whom he was joined in 2020, but instead chose to make a switch to the Midlands. And as a result, Liverpool missed the opportunity to rake in some money.

When Brewster came to Sheffield United in a £ 23.5 million deal, the Reds ensured that they were protected in the even the attacker that was successful. The Anfield team recorded two clauses in the transfer agreement, leaving the former ACE of Chelsea Academy.

As part of a club record compensation for the knives, they were also repeated to agree to a sale and purchasing clauses. Liverpool added the possibility to see Brewster return to Merseyside for £ 40 million if they convinced his versions that the reimbursement justified.

And the Reds also ensured that selling AA 15 percent on the clause was in force, but with Brewster who leaves Sheffield United for free, that unfortunately did not pay off. Nevertheless, the ex-liverpool Forward has found another chance to prove itself.

“I am very happy and very happy to become a member of this great club,” said Brewster after he had come to Derby. “It was busy, but after talking to all the boys and the manager and things like that, it was a no-brainer.

“I feel that this is a big chance for me – and one that I had to take with two hands. Hopefully I can show that this year.

“I know Ben Osborn to be in Sheffield United and also Kane Wilson by playing with England at youth level. For me, the project that John Eustace set up for me was a no-brainer to be involved. It sounded really good and is something I want to be part of, on the way to larger and better things with this club.

“There is so much more to do for me – I have a point to prove. I feel that I can always get better, no matter how old you are. There are always things to learn. I believe this will happen here with the manager, employees and players alongside helping me on the road.”
