Liverpool has opened conversations with Crystal Palace to land Marc Guehi, and the Reds are hopeful about a deal after first discussions.
Center-back Guehi would like to make the switch to Anfield and play Champions League football. The decision will be a blow to Palace who had previously hoped that they could hold their star defender. But earlier this week the chairman Steve Parish admitted that they might have to sell the player.
The Reds will also focus on Parma defender Giovanni Leoni. They still have to approach the Serie A Club about the center-back.
But they want Leoni, 18, in this countries and one ready to explore the details of a deal. Arne Slot wants defensive reinforcements before the transfer window closes, with Crystal Palace Defender Guehi the top goal.
The Reds sold Jarell Quansah earlier in the window to Bayer Leverkusen, while Nat Phillips also left for West Brom.
Joe Gomez is the oldest backup of Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk, but he is currently injured.
Leoni broke in the Parma team last season and made 17 performances in the Italian top layer. The Italy Under-19 International was looked at by various top Series A-clubs, but Liverpool regards him as a perfect addition to the team and a player who can develop training alongside Van Dijk and Konate.
Guehi has been a top goal this summer and has established itself as one of the leading English center backs in the Premier League. He was the leader from the palace to the FA Cup last summer and led to the side of their penalty shootout victory over Liverpool in Sunday's community Shield.
After the ranks arrived in Chelsea, for whom he only played two competitive games, Guehi enjoyed an impressive season on loan in Swansea City before his 2021 move to Palace.
He played 156 times for the South London Club, scored eight goals and broke into the English team while he currently has 23 international caps in Palace.
