Liverpool will take a huge step in the direction of replacing Trent Alexander-Arnold, according to it.
The Reds have seen Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong as a replacement for the outgoing Alexander-Arnold, who will leave Anfield at the end of the season.
And the Kop-Club is quickly moving to secure the services of the 24-year-old.
According to the Times, who claim that the MerseSiders have been established to activate the £ 30 million release clause of the defender.
A timeline for the Reds triggering of the Dutch international release clause is currently unknown.
Liverpool would be Frimpong enthusiastic because of his versatility as a right wing and a right wing.
The low fee that is needed to take him to Anfield would also have played a role in the club's decision to strive for him.
Frimpong, 24, would also contribute to the number of home -grown players in the books of the Reds.
The Dutchman would qualify as a home -grown player because he spent nine years in England when he was in the books of Manchester City.
Frimpong was an important part of the Leverkusen team that Bayern Munich brought on the Bundesliga title of 2023/24.
The club has not been shy about their desire to keep the services of Frimpong and recently denied reports that they had agreed to sell the defender.
Leverkusen CEO Fernandno Carro said to RTL: “Jeremie Frimpong has a long contract with us, which also has an exit clause.
“But we are not currently aware of every transfer.”
The Reds hoped that they would not have to pursue a Frimpong or a right-sided defender, because they had not given up the hope of Alexander-Arnold who committed his future to the club.
But England International Alexander-Arnold announced emotionally that he would leave his boys' club after his contract ends at the end of the season.
His announcement was not well received by parts of the Anfield believers, who expressed him when he was a replacement for the second half in the Reds 2-2 with Arsenal with Arsenal last Sunday.
