Premier League leaders Liverpool are preparing for a summer transfer spree if they lose Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
With four months left on their Anfield contracts, the trio is free to leave at the end of the season if nothing changes. The club still hopes for securing all three on new contracts, but also prepares for life without them.
The athletics (via the Liverpool Echo) reported that “a huge amount of” funds will be assigned for signing replacements. And Liverpool is fully aware of the need for a rebuilding such as one, two or all three star exit.
Salah, Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold are the best earners at the club, and if one of them decides to stay, this will probably affect how much money Arne Slot can allocate to new signing sessions in the summer. On the other hand, if their wage account is considerably reduced by departure at the end of the season, their transfer budget is expected.
Liverpool's financial health has had an upward process in recent years. According to the Deloitte Football Money League, the total turnover of the club rose to around 600 million before 2023/24, which marked an increase compared to the return of £ 565 million of the previous season.
Much of this financial boost can be attributed to an increase of £ 37 million in commercial income and an increase of £ 24 million in the income of competition day, partly due to the unveiling of the new Anfield Road stand. The failure of Liverpool to secure a place in last season's Champions League resulted in a dip in broadcast income, but that figure is expected to shoot this term, especially with the Reds that are ready to collapse at least £ 83 million in the prize money of Champions League (and still an extra £ 47 million).
Liverpool is also ready to start a new kit deal with Adidas later this year, which will yield £ 60 million annually. All in all, the club should have sufficient financial flexibility in the summer transfer window, especially if top earners Salah, Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold decide to leave.
The uncertainty about their future does not seem to have influenced Liverpool's performance. The club is currently 11 points clearly at the top of the Premier League and his hot favorites to win the title with less than a third of the remaining season.
Salah in particular is on fire and has contributed to 51 goals so far. Van Dijk is also impressive and always present in the defense of lock – while Liverpool looked considerably worse when he is absent.
Alexander-Arnold, however, has had a somewhat inconsistent season and has appeared somewhat of his game since Real Madrid showed interest during the January transfer window. It is believed that Los Blancos is sure that it secures the entire back in the summer, but Liverpool has not given up the hope of convincing him to stay.
In the meantime, both Salah and Van Dijk have publicly stated that their desire to stay in the club, but conversations with the duo seem to have hit a stalemate for a few weeks now. Liverpool works against the clock to secure their future, but supporters can take comfort to know if they don't do this, the club will not cut corners when it comes to finding replacements.
ARSENAL – Currently second in the competition with a match in hand about Liverpool – could limit the gorge to eight points with a victory over Nottingham Forest on Wednesday. Liverpool can, however, prevent that result later on the same evening with a victory against Newcastle.
The Reds will be against PSG in the Parc des Princes next Wednesday (March 5) in the first stage of their long-awaited round-of-16 Champions League collision. Then they go against Southampton in a Top-Versus-Bodem League collision before they organize PSG in Anfield for their second stage on 11 March.
