Liverpool register interest in Martin Zubimendi alternative playing in La Liga

Liverpool officially seemed to be missing when signing Arsenal-bound Martin Zubimendi, but they have already gone further from the real Sociedad and instead is another La Liga star on their radar.

Last summer, Liverpool tried to sign Zubimendi, and although a deal was hurry at a certain stage, the 26-year-old chose to reject the movement in favor of stay in La Real for another season. And it turned out exactly one season because he agreed the conditions with Arsenal.

Liverpool was disappointed to miss Zubimendi last summer, but they placed it behind them as they won the Premier League this season. But there is a need for midfield reinforcements on Anfield, and La Liga is again where they look.

As reported by Anfield Watch, Liverpool has identified Mikel Jauregizar as a leading target prior to the Summer Transfer window that will be opened next month. The 21-year-old has been a BreakOut star for Athletic Club this season and since December he has brought down a regular starting place in the Eresto Valverde line-up.

Jauregizar was perhaps not known to many in England before he scored a miracle goal against Manchester United earlier this week, but Liverpool seems to have viewed him for a while. And if that is the case, their reports would be positive, given that he has been excellent for athletics since he settled himself as a starter.

Liverpool can follow a deal for Jauregizar this summer, but reaching an agreement with athletics will be easier said than done. Los Leones will probably not have any plans to negotiate one of the stars in view of his interest in Bilbao, so the Premier League champions may have to activate his release clause to orchestrate his arrival at Merseyside.
