Liverpool will retire the no.20 shirt after the tragic death of Diogo Jota.
Jota died last week at a car accident in Spain, together with his younger brother, Andre Silva, 28 years old.
The football world is still mourning the loss of the Portuguese international, who was a beloved figure in Anfield.
And in touching a tribute to their deceased winger, Liverpool will retire his shirt number at all levels.
A fragment of a club statement was: “After consultation with his wife, Rute and Family, the club can announce that the Squad number will be retired in honor and reminder of Diogo at all levels, including LFC women and academy.
“The move is recognition of not only the immeasurable contribution that our boy from Portugal has made to the successes of the Reds in the past five years, but also the in -depth personal impact he had on his teammates, colleagues and supporters and the eternal connections he has built with them.”
The brass of Reds did not want to retire Jota's shirt without consulting his wife, RUTE and other family members.
FSG CEO Michael Edwards said: “As a club we were all sharply aware of the sentiment of our supporters – and we felt exactly the same way
“It was vital to us to involve the wife of Diogo, Rute, and his family in the decision and to ensure that they were the first to know our intention.
“I believe that this is the first time in the history of Liverpool Football Club that such an honor has been given to an individual.
“That is why we can say that this is a unique tribute to a uniquely great person.
“By retiring this team, we make it eternal – and therefore never forgotten.
“Diogo joined us in 2020, he won our number 20, and he wore – with honor, distinction and affection – the number 20.
“As for the Liverpool Football Club, he will be our number 20 forever.”
Kop -leaders Mike Gordon, Billy Hogan, John Henry and Tom Werner added a collective explanation: “The fact that this honor in the long and legendary history of our club has never shown the meaning of Diogo to Liverpool Football Club.
“His memory and contribution will be immortalized by his association with number 20.
“Our love goes to Rute, his three beautiful children and his family while they continue to merge the loss of Diogo and Andre.”
