Liverpool star agrees with Arne Slot’s brutal reality check before PSG clash

Andy Robertson has warned that Liverpool should improve against Paris Saint-Germain or they run the risk of being dumped from Europe.

But the Reds left back believes that Anfield can be the difference for the second stage of the Last-16-significance of the Champions League. Liverpool has a 1-0 lead on its way to Tuesday evening thanks to a Harvey Elliott winner in Paris.

But it came after keeper Alisson was forced to make nine major saves, because PSG dominated the side of Arne Slot. And on the back of Arne Slot they will have to show seven times more intensity than they have demonstrated against Southampton, Robertson accepted that his side will have to improve.

He said: “It will be a difficult game. They showed how good they can be, an exceptional team – probably the best we played this season.

“We are in charge, which is important, but we can clearly play better than on Wednesday, that is clear and we will have to play better because we cannot rely on Alisson who plays the game of his life every game.

“We have to be better, we have to be better without the ball and if we do that hopefully the audience can be behind us because we know how to be on Champions League nights. “The goal is to get through, but we have to play much better than we today in the first half and the entire 90 minutes there.”

But among the lights at Anfield and with a lead, Robertson is convinced that the crowd will also make it difficult for PSG. He added: “Of course the stadium made a difference on Wednesday when their players responded their fans.

“More often than not on Champions League nights, our players do that and we do not have to ask our fans at their best, it is a given and it is up to us to respond and perform because it is not easy to get in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.”

Liverpool continued their procession to the Premier League title on Saturday, but had to come from behind to beat Bottom Club Southampton in Anfield. The saints took the lead after a non -characteristic defensive error, before a few Mohamed Salah's punishes and a Darwin Nunez -targeted the Reds 16 points free from Arsenal.

But lock warned his players that they should show much more if they want to continue their search for a seventh European title. He said: “I think it might be the first time this season that I saw this pace. I think PSG has shown the right example. They played Lille in incredible intensity, 4-0 up during the break.

“So if I look at the match against Paris Saint-Germain, we have to go one step higher in terms of intensity. And if I compare it to the game today, we have to go up three, four, five, six, seven steps in terms of the intensity if we want to have a chance to reach the next round. “
