Liverpool will be associated with a large number of players this summer, but a man has said that he will remain on the watch list of the Reds despite a failed test in the past
Ghent Gem Momodou Sonko has revealed that Liverpool has retained interest in his services after a failed trial with the club. And Anfield could be his next destination, because he wants it to emulate the success of Countryman and Sporting CP Sensation Viktor Gyokeres.
Liverpool will spend this summer in an attempt to build on their Premier League triumph, and a name that reportedly drawn is Sonko. The player hopes to make considerable progress after a challenging first full season at Ghent, and international teammate Gyokeres is a natural role model.
The career trajectory of former frontman Gyokeres has been meteoric, which switches from a regular championship to one of Europe's hot prospects in record time. His amazing count of 97 goals in 102 performances for sporty CP is proof of how quickly fortunes can change in football.
Sonko has elevated ambitions and there are currently not many destinations in the world that offer higher standards than Liverpool. The 20-year-old already received a taste of the Reds in 2017 when he had a failed process at the club, but he now said that he will stay on the Liverpool watch list.
“The way I look at it is that they were already interested there, and I went there and tried it a bit,” he said Expressing, from Sweden under the 21 training camp. “I felt that I was a bit too young to move, but they have kept an eye on me.”
Sonko was recently selected for the Senior Squad van Zweden, but still has to make his first team debut under Jon Dahl Tomasson. However, it is generally expected that it is only a matter of time before the registration of Ghent gets its chance.
Despite the provision of four goals and three assists in 21 Starts (40 total performances) for Ghent this season, he has difficulty building on the promise he showed at his former employer, hacking. Significant progress is required before he can be considered a talent that is worthy of the Arne Slot team, but the gem has time by his side.
When he wondered how close he got to Liverpool in the past, he replied: “I didn't really know. I was in hacking and I wasn't trying to think too much about the sale. Then it happened pretty quickly and suddenly I was in Ghent. I don't really have a good idea.”
Although he is not a Liverpool player, Sonko did not mean to praise the club for their successful season. The Reds missed and narrowly missed a historic treble in the inaugural season of Slot as a manager, and it is safe to say that Sonko admires the work of the Dutchman.
“Yes, absolutely incredible. They have been superior in the Premier League,” he continued. “They also looked very strong in the Champions League before they had a tough match [against] Psg. It has been an incredibly good season. A very impressive debut season also for the coaches. “
Such comments indicate that Sonko would be good for the move if he continues to develop. Sweden has produced several exciting attackers in recent years, with Sonko in the footsteps of stars such as Gyokees, Alexander Isak and Anthony Elanga.
Two of that trio currently have a significant impact in the Premier League. And Gyokees could make it a hat trick if he exchanged Lisbon for England this summer, with Arsenal and Manchester United very interested.
It is 33 years ago that Glenn Hysen, the only Swede that Liverpool has represented so far, last attracted the colors of the team. However, Sonko could be the player to break that drought if he continues to grow in the Pro League of Belgium.
