Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez eyed by European giants with big transfer plans this summer

Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez is said to be the target of the Serie A-leaders Napoli as part of a broad summer recruitment in before their return to the Champions League next season.

Nunez has endured a mixed 2024-25 campaign on Anfield, making 27 Premier League performances made, but only start eight times. He scored five goals and offered two assists in the competition, but has trouble convincing under Arne Slot.

The fragmentary form and reduced role of the Uruguayan have fed speculation that Liverpool can be open to offers. Now Napoli is supposed to investigate the possibility of a movement.

Reports in Corriere Dello Sport state that Nunez is one of the many controversial names that is considered as Napoli wants to strengthen their attack. Sports director Giovanni Manna leads the transfer planning of the club and apparently sees NUNEZ as a player who can thrive in Serie A and can help increase the European ambitions of the club.

Napoli is currently three points clearly at the top of the Serie A table with three more games to go. Under the leadership of manager Antonio Conte, they have already secured their place in the Champions League of next season.

Captain Kevin De Bruyne of Manchester City would also be on the shortlist of Napoli. The 33-year-old is available this summer on a free transfer and his wife, Michele Lacroix, was recently seen in Naples, where she apparently explored housing options.

The couple is familiar with the city through the close friendship of De Bruyne to former Napoli attacker dries Mertens, and they married in the neighborhood of Amalfi in 2017.

In addition to De Bruyne and Nunez, Napoli are supposed to follow Porto's Spanish attacker Samu Omorodion, Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Lee Kang-in and Lille striker Jonathan David, who no longer has a contract this summer.

NUNEZ came to Liverpool from Benfica in 2022 in a club record transfer worth £ 85 million. Since then, the 25-year-old has scored 25 Premier League objectives in 92 performances. He also contributed 13 assists.

His current contract in Anfield will expire in June 2028.
