Liverpool are reportedly interested in Fulham left-back Antonee Robinson – who has responded positively to Reds links on social media.
Marco Silva's Cottagers traveled to Anfield on Saturday afternoon, shared the spoils and impressed in a 2-2 draw, although one player in particular stood out.
The visitors' brightest star was British-born American defender Robinson, who managed to keep Mohamed Salah relatively quiet while providing two assists for his side's goals. While a bewildered Silva struggled to find the words to describe his player's performance, Robinson's social media activity was not so quiet.
Amid rumors that the 27-year-old could be brought in as a replacement for Andrew Robertson, who saw red in the game against Fulham, Robinson was caught liking comments suggesting a move on Instagram.
Under a post from Robinson captioned: “Another point on the board” after the Anfield result, some comments uploaded by supposed Reds fans were appreciated by the defender. The two comments read: “Anfield suits you” and “Sign for us, fella.”
The move comes in the wake of Robinson's performance on Merseyside – a performance that boss Silva couldn't quite ignore during his post-match press conference.
“What an achievement. It is difficult to express in words. It's not the first time,” Silva admitted. “If we have to play again in two days, he will be ready again. He is a great athlete and has an open mind to learn.
“I don't want to talk too much about him because next January it will be the same story about Robinson again. I don't want to go that way. He's very focused on the way he wants to behave, so let's keep it that way.”
Asked if he thought the left-back was the best in the English top flight, Silva replied: “If you ask the Fulham manager, of course I'll say yes!”
However, according to GiveMeSport, Liverpool remain interested in signing Robinson, although they could face competition from Premier League rivals Manchester City and Manchester United.
Another spanner could be thrown into the works if fans are also involved, as Robinson is a product of Everton's academy and played for the Toffees from the age of 11 until 2019.
There was no love lost between the defender and Everton either, as he admitted when reflecting on his departure: “Everton were always very honest with me, they just said 'we've got rid of a few players, but we definitely have to keep Bainesy. ” [Leighton Baines].
“We can't lose Jags [Phil Jagielka]the captain, and also loses Baines. It makes Everton disappear into the dressing room so much, and he's still such a good player. We have him, and [Lucas] Digne starts for us, so you have to wait for two injuries before you start, so you don't even get on the bench at the moment, so we think it's best for you if you just leave.
“It has nothing to do with you, but you just have to play.” I'm very grateful that they were so open and honest with me because it gave me the opportunity to leave and progress elsewhere.
