Liverpool transfer news: EPL striker eyed as Mohamed Salah warning sent

Liverpool have had an excellent start under new boss Arne Slot, but they could still be tempted to make some new signings in the January transfer window.

The Reds have made a number of big signings in January in recent years, including the signing of Virgil van Dijk from Southampton for £75 million. However, the Liverpool captain's future is now up in the air with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.

Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold are in the same situation and it remains to be seen whether the trio will remain at Anfield. With all that in mind, Mirror Football takes a look at all the latest rumors and news…

Liverpool eye Pedro

According to a report from Brazilian outlet UOL, Liverpool are interested in signing Brighton striker Joao Pedro.

The report states that Liverpool have been keeping a close eye on Pedro for 'almost five years' and have made him 'one of their priorities' for next season. It is claimed that he would be an ideal signing for Slot, but transfer talks are only 'exploratory' at this time.

Manchester United are also said to have a long-term interest in Pedro, but the recent departures of Erik ten Hag and Dan Ashworth could change things. Pedro is under contract with Brighton until 2028 and the Seagulls are likely to demand a large fee for the 23-year-old.

Salah sent a transfer warning

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes Salah will sign a new contract as he has no other options.

“I love Mo Salah, he is one of the best players in the world, but I say the reason [I don’t think will have options’ is because of his age,” Carragher said on the Stick to Football podcast, brought to you by Sky Bet.

He added: “He’s not ready to go to Saudi [Arabia] – he can do that in three years. As a footballer, Salah is so driven to win the record for most goals – or whatever that may be for Liverpool.”

Klopp's future

Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has no plans to return to management anytime soon, his agent Marc Kosicke has revealed.

Klopp will start his role as Red Bull's new Head of Global Football in the new year, but Kosicke has admitted there is a chance he could be tempted to return to the dugout to take charge of Germany .

“Jurgen has no desire to become a coach at the moment,” Kosicke told the Abendblatt podcast, as quoted by BILD. “Life is dynamic. And if it were to come to that [the Germany job]That would certainly be another aspect that I wouldn't dismiss.”
