Liverpool have a lot going on behind the scenes with the January transfer window in full swing.
Unlike other Premier League clubs, Liverpool's activities are mainly focused inward, on securing the futures of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Contracts are on the table for all three, but question marks remain, especially over Alexander-Arnold, with Real Madrid in the spotlight and his performances declining.
Liverpool were still able to take advantage of the period to bring in a new player, with an injury to Joe Gomez leaving Arne Slot short in central defence. With a potential shot at the Premier League title on the line – not to mention the Champions League, Carabao Cup and FA Cup – another option in defense could make the difference.
Elon Musk's name has been linked to the Reds in recent days, but the club has no interest in signing the world's richest man. Here are the latest rumors about the club.
Luis Diaz has long been linked with a move to Barcelona and he has now reportedly rejected Liverpool's offer of a new contract. Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo claims Diaz rejected a bid partly due to overtures from Barca.
The 27-year-old winger is under contract until June 2027, but the club would like to extend his contract. Diaz is hesitant about such a possibility as he believes his importance to the team is not recognized in the offer on the table.
However, he is not the only player on Barcelona's radar; Nico Williams and Rafael Leao are also interesting. It should be noted that Barcelona are hardly in a position to poach players from other clubs as they currently cannot even register Dani Olmo due to their financial mess.
Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton is wanted by Hull and Sheffield United in the January transfer window. Morton has made just three appearances in the Carabao Cup this season and Mirror Football understands he is waiting to see if Arne Slot will approve a move.
Sheffield United are pursuing Leicester's Hamza Choudhury and Southampton's Ben Brereton Diaz as promotion reinforcements, but Morton is another option being considered by Chris Wilder.
Meanwhile, Hull are also keen to re-sign Morton after he enjoyed a successful loan spell with the Tigers last season. The 22-year-old has made 41 appearances for Hull and has proven himself in the Championship, having also represented Blackburn with distinction.
Mohamed Salah has revealed he is learning Spanish but was quick to play down suggestions he could lead to a move to La Liga. Salah has been given new terms by Liverpool, with his current contract expiring in June, and has been in fantastic form.
The Egyptian wants to focus on winning trophies for Liverpool this season, rather than on speculation. But an interview he conducted with TNT Sports Mexico may have inadvertently added fuel to the fire.
“I'm learning the language a little bit, and I can say things like, 'How are you?' But that doesn't mean I'm thinking about living in Spain,” said Salah. He was previously interested in Saudi Arabian clubs, but is about to sign a new two-year contract with Liverpool.
