Liverpool are preparing for a potentially tough away day against Tottenham in the Premier League on Sunday, but they also have one eye on the January transfer window.
The Reds are quite top of the Premier League, although the gap has narrowed recently following their 2-2 draw with Fulham last weekend and the postponement of the Merseyside Derby before that. Arne Slot's side have a two-point lead over second-placed Chelsea with a game in hand, and are also enjoying themselves in other competitions.
A 2-1 win over Southampton took Liverpool to the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, while Slot also posted a perfect record in the Champions League. But as always there is room for improvement and January offers Liverpool the chance to bring in new players.
The rumor mill is spinning and it appears that Liverpool are indeed looking to sign. Here, Mirror Football takes a look at the latest news and rumors.
Liverpool saw first-hand just how effective Antonee Robinson can be last weekend as Fulham took a point from Anfield. The Fulham left-back was the standout player for the visitors and attracted plenty of attention, with Liverpool among those keeping tabs on the US international.
Robinson has now admitted that while he loves playing for Marco Silva's side, he would be willing to make a move if a big-money offer came along.
He told Marca: “I am very happy here. The fact that there is interest from other teams is great. Obviously it all comes down to whether someone wants me enough to pay what Fulham would ask. So if the club thinks it's a good idea, I would leave.”
It looks like Alphonso Davies will leave Bayern Munich this summer as his contract expires and his eyes are on other clubs. Real Madrid have long been considered the most likely destination for the speedy full-back, but the market is open.
Manchester United are another club in need of a left-back, while Liverpool could be tempted to upgrade Andy Robertson after his recent struggles. Sky Sports Germany reporter Christian Falk reports that Davies' agent is shopping around his client and that Liverpool could meet him to discuss the possibility of a move in 2025.
Manager Nick Huoseh will tour England in the new year and interest from other clubs will help, even though Real and United are more concrete options.
Arne Slot has praised Trent Alexander-Arnold's ambition after the Liverpool star said he wants to 'build a legacy' before he retires.
“This is what I like about a player!” Slot said: “Everyone has to have it at this level and if you don't have that, you don't play at this level. But they have to put the team first and they all do that, including Trent. All top players want to be special and be the best, to stay fit.
“The players have a great life, but they have to put in a lot of work to be at their best every three days and that is the mentality of a top player. That's what you need to be the best player.”
