Liverpool have had an excellent season as Arne Slot's side prepare for their first match of 2025 later today.
Liverpool are set to welcome rivals Manchester United to Anfield and will be hoping to continue their good form after scoring an impressive 14 goals in their last three Premier League wins.
The Reds currently sit at the top of the league and are also at the top of the revamped Champions League competition stage, having won all six of their European matches to date. However, they are set for a busy January transfer window, with much focus on the futures of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.
The trio's contracts expire at the end of the season and it remains to be seen whether they will remain at Anfield. With all that in mind, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest Liverpool transfer news.
Heitinga makes an exit call
Arne Slot's assistant manager John Heitinga has decided to stay at Liverpool despite being linked with the West Brom job.
West Brom are looking for a new manager after Carlos Corberan left the Championship club to take charge of Valencia and Heitinga, who previously had a short spell in charge of Ajax, has been mentioned as a potential replacement.
However, Heitinga's agent has confirmed that the 41-year-old will not be leaving Anfield for pastures new. Rob Jansen said: “John will definitely stay at Liverpool this season.”
Pitaluga ready for departure
According to reports from Brazil, 22-year-old goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga could be ready for a return to Fluminense.
Pitaluga joined Liverpool from Fluminense in 2020 for a fee of around £2 million and has spent time on loan at Macclesfield, St Patrick's Athletic and Livingston. However, Fluminense are now in talks with Liverpool about re-signing Pitaluga.
It is claimed that the Brazilian is keen to return to his home country after struggling for game time at Livingston so far this season. The report states that the move would be a free transfer but Liverpool would have a sell-on clause.
Salah last
Salah has cast more doubt over his future at Liverpool after admitting he is “a long way from any progress”.
Salah said: “There's nothing, no progress there. We're far from any progress so we just have to wait and see. I think the thing in my head is fine if this is your last six months or last year, which has to be should I do?” do you want to see in the future?
“Do you want to look back and say, 'Oh, I was worried about the contract or stressed?' or do you just want to say, 'Okay, I had an incredible season.' have had'. So that's what I want to do.”
