Liverpool transfer news: TAA uncertainty as Reds consider January decision

The clock is quickly ticking towards January and another transfer window for Liverpool to deal with.

Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk are yet to sign contract extensions at Anfield and could speak to European clubs within days to discuss their plans. The trio have six months left on their contracts and the pressure will be on the Reds to tie down their stars.

The New Year will also offer Arne Slot the second opportunity to shape his Liverpool selection with outside help. Could one or two transfers secure the club top of the Premier League table?

Mirror Football takes a look at the latest news surrounding the Reds ahead of the market reopening.

Trent Alexander-Arnold uncertainty

According to Marca, Liverpool's academy star has told the Reds he wants to play for Real Madrid. The defender will see his contract expire at the end of the season and is high on Los Blanco's wish list as they look to secure his signature as a free agent.

That move would have given the Reds a decision on whether to move Alexander-Arnold in January rather than lose the player for free in the summer. Real Madrid are reportedly content to wait and see if Liverpool contact them regarding a move forward before Alexander-Arnold becomes a free agent.

However, according to the Liverpool Echo, Alexander-Arnold has not communicated anything so definitively to Liverpool. The defender has also insisted that he does not want the saga to play out in public.

Possibility January

Liverpool could be tempted to make a move for Fulham star Antonee Robinson, according to reports. Arne Slot's team is said to be keeping an eye on the American international.

The full-back could cost as much as £50million to win away from the Cottagers and is under contract in west London until 2028. Robinson has made 169 appearances for Fulham.

The 27-year-old has impressed under Marco Silva this season, providing six assists in 18 appearances in the 2024/2025 season.

Loan oriented

Atletico Madrid are considering a move for Federico Chiesa, according to reports from Spain.

Injury has hampered the Italian since joining Liverpool from Juventus this summer and as a result the 27-year-old has hardly earned a chance to capitalize. Both the club and the player are said to be considering a move to allow Chiesa to find some rhythm.

Atletico are interested in adding depth to their squad and players with dynamism. Chiesa seems to fit this bill, claiming there is a 'high chance' a deal will be struck.
