Liverpool transfer news: Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah ‘expected’ to stay as £150m deal approved

The January transfer window is now open and it could prove to be a decisive one for Liverpool.

The Reds are the favorites to win the Premier League title this season, but some additions could finally get them over the line. A number of names, including Alexander Isak and Dani Olmo, have already been linked with a move to Anfield.

Without any new players, Liverpool will do their utmost to keep some of their current stars. Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah can all start talks with foreign clubs from today.

Liverpool will be desperate to keep the trio, even if the England star remains linked to Real Madrid. Check out all the latest news and rumors from Merseyside.

While Trent Alexander-Arnold may leave Anfield sooner or later, the same may not be true for the Reds' other two contract rebels. According to reports, Van Dijk and Salah are approaching a longer stay.

According to The Athletic, the duo are expected to reach the same conclusion and sign new two-year contracts at Anfield. Agreements have yet to be reached and an announcement is still some way off, but talks are ongoing and there is optimism about the couple staying.

Each player is linked to an exit. Recent reports from Italy suggested Inter Milan were interested in Van Dijk, while Salah was continually on the agenda of a host of Saudi clubs.

Ex-Liverpool star Jamie Carragher believes Newcastle's Alexander Isak would be a perfect signing for a host of Premier League clubs, including Arne Slot's top prospects.

Speaking to Isak after the Sweden international scored against Man United, he said: “Alexander, I absolutely adore you. I think you are a fantastic player and if I had £150 million I would pay to put you at whatever club to have.”

Isak has been in stunning form this season, scoring thirteen goals. He still has three and a half years left on his St James' Park deal.

Liverpool have joined a number of Premier League clubs in the race for Dani Olmo with his future at Barcelona hanging in the balance. The Spanish giants signed the midfielder from RB Leipzig this summer.

But they have failed to sign him for the second half of the campaign, meaning he could potentially leave for nothing in January. According to Mundo Deportivo, Liverpool are in line to sign him alongside both Manchester clubs.

Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal are also considering him. Olmo, 26, has made 15 appearances for Barcelona so far this season, scoring six goals.

However, a deal could prove tricky as the player's agent insists he will remain at Camp Nou this season and is not considering other offers.
