Liverpool transfer news: Virgil van Dijk’s four-word statement as Reds sign Man City starlet

Liverpool have never been afraid to get busy in the January transfer market.

Current captain Virgil van Dijk is perhaps the best of the bunch after joining from Southampton in 2018. But his future is still up in the air, with just a few months left on his contract.

He could potentially join Mohammed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold if they leave the club; the trio has yet to sign a new contract. But that doesn't mean there isn't a lot of hard work going on behind the scenes at Anfield.

New faces may also appear in the coming weeks. Check out all the latest rumors and confirmed deals coming out of the red side of Merseyside:

Reds captain Virgil van Dijk has brutally dismissed another question about his future. The Dutchman still does not have his contract expiring this summer.

After Liverpool's 1-0 win against Girona in the Champions League, he was asked to comment on contract talks. He responded by saying, “There is no word.”

The interviewer tried to probe again, but Van Dijk remained stubborn, repeating “not a word” before saying “no news”.

Liverpool have completed a deal for former Manchester City trainee Lucas Clarke. The 16-year-old defender has signed a contract with the Reds and is expected to join Liverpool's youth academy.

He took to social media to announce the move. Clarke wrote on Instagram: “Happy to have signed for @liverpoolfc. I can't wait to get started #ynwa”.

It is not the first time that Liverpool have signed a promising youngster from one of their rivals. In September, Liverpool completed the signing of Rio Ngumoha from Chelsea.

The 16-year-old forward had been offered a new contract to stay with the Blues but was tempted to Anfield for a clearer route to the first team.

Former Liverpool star Ragnar Klavan has announced his retirement from football at the age of 39. The former defender wrote on social media: “Today I say goodbye to my first love. It's time to end the journey I've been on. started at the age of 15 and will conclude a 24-year career as a professional football player. I would like to thank you – dear football fans – for your presence during this time!”

He added: “My journey as a footballer has been full of important milestones and remarkable people. Reaching the European Championship play-offs with the Estonian national team and the whole iconic year of 2011. One at club level of course, winning the Dutch league title and reaching the Champions League final with Liverpool. I have undoubtedly been fortunate to work with many of the best managers in the world.”

“When I was 13, I dreamed of reaching the top of English football and the Premier League. Yes, it took 17 years, but I did it (!), and the icing on the cake was of course by playing for Liverpool Now I can no longer keep up with the young people on the field, but I can still DREAM BIG.”
