Liverpool urged ‘to throw spanner in the works’ with Kyle Walker transfer bid

Liverpool have been told that Manchester City mistrustful Kyle Walker would be a perfect signing following his transfer request.

City boss Pep Guardiola recently confirmed that the 34-year-old had asked to leave the club after a trophy-laden spell. As it stands, Walker will remain at the club, with AC Milan the strongest pursuit of his signature.

But ex-Liverpool star Dean Saunders has urged his former side to make a move for the England star. He believes he could be an ideal replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold – the Liverpool star who has been linked with Real Madrid as his contract expires.

Saunders said on talkSPORT: “You want me to throw a spanner in the works? It looks like Trent is leaving; Why don't Liverpool sign him? [Walker]?

“Please, he would be a good signing for Liverpool if Trent leaves. I know they have the boy [Conor Bradley] he'll pull through…besides, he's still fast, and if Trent goes…'

Saunders then emphasized that Walker remains one of the most talented right-backs in the Premier League. He added: “He would be in the Spurs team, he would be in the Liverpool team, he would be in the Man United team, he would be in the Chelsea team. Would he make the Arsenal team? He would make the Arsenal team. He's better than [Ben] White.”

While Liverpool may need a new right-back sooner or later, it seems highly unlikely that they will want to sign Walker. As it stands, they are rejecting Real Madrid's attempts to sign Alexander-Arnold, while having Conor Bradley as backup.

However, they have done business in recent days regarding a right back. Young defender Calvin Ramsay has been loaned to Scottish side Kilmarnock until the end of the season.

Meanwhile, a decision has yet to be made on Walker's future, although Guardiola seemed confident he would leave when he spoke at the weekend. The Spaniard said: “Two days ago, Kyle asked to explore the possibilities of playing abroad at the end of his career.

“In his [Walker’s] mind, he would like to explore it, go to another country, to play the last years [somewhere else] for many reasons. For that reason I prefer to play against other players who have their thoughts here.”

Man City are back in action in midweek when they take on Brentford and it remains to be seen whether Walker remains out of the squad. Liverpool will take on Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Tuesday evening.
