Liverpool wanted star who frustrated Man City as agent reveals transfer snub

Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio turned down Liverpool in the summer, according to his agent, after the Italian shot-stopper produced an excellent display against Man City.

Di Gregorio was impressive in Juventus' 2-0 win over City in the Champions League on Wednesday, making two excellent stops to thwart Pep Guardiola's men as he saved from both Erling Haaland and Ilkay Gundogan.

There should be a host of teams turned heads by Di Gregorio's performances this season, having played 15 times in all competitions for Thiago Motta's men.

According to Di Gregorio's agent Carlo Alberto Belloni, Liverpool would be one of those interested teams.

He claimed the player “said no” to joining Arne Slot's squad while at Monza, in favor of a move to Juventus. He joined the Oude Dame with an initial loan with purchase obligation.

“The Manchester City fans will certainly remember his saves for a long time,” Belloni told Tuttosport. “We said no to Liverpool this summer to join the Juventus project.

“He works hard to continuously improve. He has set up a gym at home so he can train on his days off. He has an incredible mentality and it is his desire to be part of Juventus that rewrites history and wins important trophies .”

Liverpool were looking for a goalkeeper this summer amid fears Alisson could leave and eventually brought in Valencia's Giorgi Mamardashvili, who will arrive in January.

The Reds had been without Alisson for two months before he returned this week in a 1-0 win over Girona, with back-up keeper Caoimhin Kelleher an excellent replacement.

Slot will now be happy with three solid goalkeeping options following Alisson's return and was delighted with his Brazilian after seamlessly returning to the side after his long absence.

Today he showed again why I have said so often that he is our first goalkeeper, nothing to do with Caoimh [Kelleher] he did so well.
